Thank you for reassuring me! Are you able to go through what will actually happen for my mum on the day of her appointment? Like, what’s the routine procedure for people who get called back after a routine mammogram? Also, roughly how long do these appointments usually take? I know what they need to do will depend on what she’s been called back for, but even just a rough baseline of what to expect would really help me feel a bit more prepared for Monday.

There is some useful information about mammogram recall on the Breast Cancer Now website that you might find helpful. 

Depending on what additional screening your Mum needs at her appointment on Monday, she may be there for a few hours. Please do not read anything into this. Additional tests, scans and biopsies do not automatically mean someone has cancer. Often, these procedures are done to rule out cancer, and the length of time your Mum is in clinic is not an indication of the seriousness or outcome of the appointment. 

It's understandable that you are feeling anxious about your Mum's appointment but worrying will not change the outcome on Monday. It will however leave you feeling much worse over the next few days. As others have said, the important thing is that your Mum is getting this checked and if there is a problem, she will be with the right team to get this resolved. 

Hopefully the appointment on Monday will bring you both some reassurance. Do let us know how she gets on.

Today’s the day. I’ve hardly slept and I’m feeling incredibly anxious, both physically and mentally. I have so many thoughts and different scenarios going through my head, and I’m finding it really difficult to switch my brain off.

Her appointment isn’t until this afternoon, so I’ve still got a few hours to get through, which feels like a long time right now.

But I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who has commented and supported me over the past two weeks. I’ve read through your comments so many times whenever I’ve felt anxious, and they’ve genuinely helped me get through the waiting.

Once we know more, I’ll come back and let everyone know how she got on. 

Hi, 

We are still in the hospital but my mum has messaged me saying that she’s had an ultrasound and they think she has 2 cyst on her right side. She had just had another mammogram and it’s waiting for the results now. 

Just an update regarding my mum. The breast clinic rang her this morning and said her biopsy results came back as benign and that they were cysts, which is obviously a relief. But she has to go back next Tuesday for further investigations. The nurse said there’s nothing to worry about, but I’m still feeling a bit anxious and wondering why she would need further testing if the biopsy results were benign. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
