If referred by the GP for CT scan who does it go to first and who will I hear from ? GP or the hospital ? CT scans were abdomen, pelvis and pancreas.

As the tittle says those who have been referred for a CT by your GP after blood results who's tumor markers were significantly elevated or just reffered by the GP for a CT scan on a fast track.

What was the process after the CT ? 

Did the hospital contact with results or was it your GP once the report was done and uploaded to your patients know best portal thing ? 

Does it go automatically to a MDT before results get told / sent to go like it does for the breast clinic or is it a different process ?

    Following a 'mass' being found on my liver following an ultrasound, my GP referred me for an urgent CT scan, but at the same time I was also referred through to a hepatology consultant under the two week pathway for suspected pancreatic / liver cancer.  I was given my CT results by the consultant, I was then referred for an urgent MRI scan as they could not tell from the CT scan whether it was benign or malignant.  It was after the consultant got the MRI results that it then went through to the MDT before I got told the results / treatment plan.  

    I would imagine that unless your gp has also referred you directly to the hospital as well, you will get your results from your gp. 

    I hope that you hear something soon, waiting for results is awful!

    Hi Annie , 

    Thank you for your reply , so quite different from the breast clinic then.

    The CT scans came back now and the GP has reviewed and I've an appointment on Tuesday for results all I know at the moment is that the results of it were abnormal.

    I know I'm able to now see the reports from them in the GP notes section of the NHS app but I'm not going to look knowing that they are abnormal.

    Did they do your cancer antigen bloods at any point ? 

    For me it was the first thing that was done that made the GP reffer for the CT scan.

    Hi Natz, yes they did the cancer antigen blood tests on me, but mine came back ok, it was purely a high ALP liver reading that prompted the ultrasound in my case, which then led to the CT scan & MRI.

    You are wise to not try to check on the NHS app, unless we have a medical background, we cannot interpret the results properly & it just adds to the uncertainty & worries. Much better to wait for the doctor to give you the results & he can then tell you what happens next, whether any further investigations are required etc.

    I ended up having a liver resection to remove the tumour, as due to the size & location of it, it would need to be removed regardless if whether it was benign or malignant.  They then sent it off for testing once it was removed & it thankfully came back as benign.

    I hope that you get some answers to your worries on Tuesday & fingers crossed it is nothing to worry about.
