Bleeding whilst on the pill

My daughter is 15 and has been taking the pill for almost year. She was advised to go on the pill as her periods were very heavy, painful, and unpredictable. Her cycle when from every 28 days 5 days bleed to an 10 day cycle, a couple of days break then another long period.

She has been taken the pill for almost year but is already on her third pill. At the beginning of a new pill she would be fine, no bleed but after around two months her periods returned to the same patterns like before. She has been taken Yasmin since June and the same predictable pattern has occurred. She saw a nurse who did the normal physical checks and said all was fine however, she is now bleeding daily with no break. She has lower back and pelvis pain and is constipated and already missed her first two weeks return to school.

I am really concerned, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • A very warm welcome to the forum Pickler25, although I'm sorry to hear what your daughter is going through. This must be very stressful.

If your daughter's symptoms have got worse since she saw the nurse it would be best to go back and make them aware of these changes. Instead of seeing the nurse, maybe you could book an appointment with the GP this time to get a second opinion. Hopefully they will be able to address your concerns and put your mind at ease.

I hope some of our members who have been in a similar situation to your daughter will stop by soon to offer their thoughts and advice but if it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We're sending you both all our support and will have our fingers crossed this can be resolved soon.

    Kind regards,
