Spitz Naevus - is this a benign mole?

Hi I had a mole taken out a month or two ago. Today I received a letter saying that dermatology have recieved histology results of the mole that they have removed and is ‘confirmed’ to be a spitz naevus. They have given me a leaflet with information about spitz navei. Upon reading that it has lead me to believe that all spitz naevus are benign is this true? I’m just uncertain as they haven’t said if it is cancerous or benign in the letter, I’m a bit lost as I want to believe it is benign but am just not sure. They also said they want to take slightly larger margins where they have already operated on to allow for more healthy skin, anyone been in this situation or know if I can yet say if it is benign or not basically, as it has been confirmed as a spitz naevus? Thanks a lot in advance sorry for rambling

  • Hi jl_0310 and welcome to the Cancer Chat forum.

I hope this information we have about about spitz naevus will help to clear things up but if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to answer your questions.

Hopefully some of our members who have had this type of mole will stop by when they can to offer their reassurance and advice as well.

I hope this helps jl_0310 and that you're able to get some peace of mind over this soon.
