Hi im on melanoma surveillance, at my latest skin check they said mole on my neck maybe a bcc having excsion on Sunday just wondered  if anyone else has had one on neck and if I'm likely to need time of work my job is physical I work in school catering as general assistant.mit is at front of neck about 1.5cm from thyroidectomy scar which I had 2 years ago its 6 by 8mm pearlescent nodule.

  • Hello Cat23j

I'm sorry to hear that you have a BCC and that you're due to have it removed tomorrow. It's really difficult for us to say if you will need time off work, as there are so many variable factors to consider.

Do talk through any concerns you have with the specialist when you see them tomorrow and if you need to take time off while you heal, then hopefully your employer will be supportive.

I hope that all goes smoothly tomorrow Cat23j. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi had the mole excsion they took 3mm margin. Neck is tight and a bit sore can't do much at moment. Have to have stitches removed next Monday. Results in 6 to 8 weeks.

  • Hello Cat23j

I'm glad that all went smoothly for you today. Hopefully over the next few days you'll begin to feel a little less sore as things heal.

We know that waiting for results can be a worrying time but hopefully when you next speak with the specialists, they will be able to give you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi I'm just looking for a bit of advice. My neck still feels tight from mole excsion I know that's normal.i work in school catering general assistant serving dishwasher, clearing plates etc.. I was hoping to return Friday on light duties but as neck still feels pulling when move around not sure if I should wait until stitches are removed. Bit worried telling manager as we are already short staffed and I think she hoping I will return on Friday. But if I can't do much I'm not going to be much use anyway. Is it safe to go back if feel able to on Friday.

  • Also hospital just said no straining for 2 weeks for work they said go by how you feel

  • Hi Cat23j,

Hopefully some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but in the meantime it would be best to follow the hospital's advice and go with your gut. You know your body better than anyone, so if you feel you may not quite be ready to return to work just yet then it may be best to wait.

We know this must be difficult so if it would help to talk things through with one of cancer nurses you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to help you figure out what to do.

We're sending you all our support Cat23j and wishing you all the best with your recovery.

    Kind regards,
