Whats the appointment for?

I went for an urgent refferal with my toe to dermatology on the 17th july. By chance while i was there a lession was found that they said needed removing. I was told they will monitor my toe and come back in 3 months for that. I had the lesion removed on the 2nd august. I was told 6-8 weeks for results.

Today 21st august i had a message on my nhs app saying theyve scheduled me an appointment for 4th september. The appointment says follow up consultation.

Will this be for my toe or my results of my biopsy?

Any knowledge would be appreciated as neither are within the time they said origionally

  • Hi Rachab,

I noticed you haven't had a reply to your post just yet so I wanted to reassure you that your post has been seen, and offer you a very warm welcome to the forum.

I hope your recovery is going well although I'm sorry for the confusion this upcoming appointment is causing. Unfortunately I can't answer your question about this but hopefully some of our members who have been on a similar pathway will be able to tell you more, and it won't be long until some of them stop by to share their experiences and advice.

Not knowing what appointments are for can be rather unnerving so if it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. With their knowledge and insight they will do all they can to answer your questions and support you whilst you wait.

We're wishing you all the best for next month Rachab, and we'll have our fingers crossed for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hi Rachab

it is difficult to say . It may be worth ringing the admin team or dermatology secretary to see if they have any further info  . I know follow ups can be for different things , they may indicate further treatment is needed or they may explain a benign result.

I am waiting myself and was told results by letter , but I expect I would need to come in for further treatment possibly .

  • Thankyou, i tried to get through to the secretary but was passed around to different numbers and gave up, i wasnt told how id recieve the results but im hoping i will get a letter with more information about the appointment. Wishing you good results x

  • Hi Rachab,

I am sorry to hear that you find yourself in this situation. It is impossible for any of us to say what this appointment is for. As they have said that they will monitor your toe and see you in 2-3 months, my guess is that this will be for your biopsy results.  The only way to be certain is to contact your consultant's secretary. Do you have a direct number for her? You will usually find this on any letter from your consultant.

There can be a longer wait for Dermatology biopsies to be relayed to patients, as this is usually a very bust department. It sounds as if yours may have come back sooner than expected. This happened to me too, but thankfully, it was good news. I hope that yours will be too! Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks for the reply,
