The waiting game

Hi all

I’m 43 female and 6 weeks ago I finally went to my gp about my bowel symptoms which is heavy bleeding and lots of mucus, these symptoms I’ve had for a year.

she put me on the fast track referral for bowel cancer.

4 weeks ago I saw the colorectal consultant

then 2 weeks ago I had a colonoscopy where they found 3 polyps possibly 4 in my rectum

1st one was 25mm

2nd one was 3cm

3rd one was 15mm

had 10 biopsies taken and still waiting results

this week I had a ct colonography scan as they couldn’t reach to the right side of my bowel during the colonoscopy as bowel prep hadn’t worked properly.

i have a phone call appointment on the 18th Aug with general surgery which I’m presuming is to discuss surgery to remove the polyps.

obviously the waiting is mentally draining.

is there anyone going through similar?

  • Hi my husband went through something similar.. bleeding when going to loo. His GP sent him for colonoscopy. They found several polyps. Went again at later date for removal. They removed the small ones but there was one too big to do that day as running out of time. So we waited.. and waited months!  Nothing I chased them up.  Basically he had been missed completely by that time he was in pain in stomach by then. Within 2 weeks he got appointment for removal. All went well. Biopsies were all clear. Do chase if you do not hear anything. It could have been a different story.  Best of luck im sure you will be fine. X
