Colonoscopy next week - so scared right now and worried about having the procedure

Hi im bec im 39 im waiting on a colonoscopy next week. Im extremely scared right now. About a month ago I felt pressure in my bottom during sex I thought it may have just been piles. Fast forward a few weeks and it didn't go away so I had a feel I could feel a mass. I went to the doctors who confirms its a mass About 5-7cm large. This past week ive now developed new symptoms of tummy pain ranging from a dull ache to being woken up at night with sharp stabbing pains. Acid reflux and feeling sick. Im struggling to eat anything as when my tummy is empty i dont feel as sick.I have two young girls im so worried im not going to be able to look after them. I dont really know what I want to accomplish by typing this as I know I won't get any answer till the tests have been done. Its consuming every second of my life im so scared. Im worried about having the procedure and taking the laxatives, im scared what they are going to find. I know there is something there thats not hemorrhoids. My mum passed from bowel cancer when I was 7 and I really dont want to leave my kids and loving husband.

  • A very warm welcome to the forum Bec127, although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

Contending with unexplained symptoms is always a worrying and scary time but you did the right thing by seeing your GP and hopefully you will be able to get some much needed answers next week.

I hope this information we have about having a colonoscopy will help to alleviate some of your fears about having this done but if it would help to talk this through with someone, you can give one of cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you and address any other questions or concerns.

Hopefully some of our members who have had a colonoscopy or contended with similar symptoms will share their experiences and advice with you soon but in the meantime, we're wishing you all the best for next week and will have our fingers crossed for good news.

    Kind regards,
