Visible breast mass - has anyone had something similar? I have my breast clinic appointment tomorrow and can't shake the anxiety

Hi everyone

I’m 38 and my mum is currently going through treatment for BC.

ashamed to say I wasn’t really aware of how to check my boobs until recently. A few months ago I thought I felt a grape sized lump but wasn’t too sure. Asked my husband and he couldn’t feel anything. Pushed it aside as was focussed on caring for mum, my 3 kids and working full time.

a few weeks ago I was laying on my side with my arm up and felt a long oval mass, must be about 4-5. I can almost feel smaller lumps inside of it. Asked my husband if he could feel it and he said he could actually see it. Took a photo and low & behold, there is a pretty visible mass there.

Saw GP who said it felt like a large area of thickened tissue. I have my breast clinic appt tomorrow and I can’t shake the anxiety. I can’t really talk to anyone about it as I don’t want to panic anyone. Trying to be strong for my mum.

I’ve not seen much on visible masses before, has anybody had one and it turned out to be fine? It’s only visible when I lay down with my arm up

  • Hi Grouchytiger,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry you didn't receive a reply prior to your appointment yesterday. I hope that it went OK and that you perhaps have some more information now.

There will be many others here who have experienced something similar, so hopefully you'll get more replies soon.

It sounds like you're going through a lot at the moment - I hope you're getting on as OK as can be. We're always here for support if you need it, and do keep us posted.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi Grouchytiger,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time at the moment - the last thing you needed was this additional worry! How did you get on at the breast clinic?

I lost my mum to breast cancer after a 12 year battle with the disease, and I have had 2 diagnoses of breast cancer and 1 of pre-cancer, all within a year. I have had a lumpectomy, followed by a double mastectomy. That was all 16 years ago now and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life. Rest assured that we are always here for you - it is often easier to talk to strangers who have experienced cancer for themselves, instead of worrying relatives and friends.

    Please keep in touch.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
