Worried about results

hi all,

recently had some symptoms such as lower back pain, heavier periods, a massive increase of discharge, month long cramp etc and due to me putting off my smear for so long I attended my gp. During my smear she didn’t like what she seen, so referred me for a 2 week cancer pathway referral. At this appointment I was told it was just a cervical ectropion and nothing to worry about. No biopsys etc were taken. I then get a call about an urgent colposcopy because my smear results are high grade HPV with severe pre cancerous changes. I got it done and my biopsys. She said it’s NOT cancer, but surely there is only so much her eyes can tell her? For months now I haven’t been able to shake this horrible feeling. Has anyone been told it’s just pre cancerous changes or confirmed it’s not cancer during colposcopy and it turned out to be? I just don’t know , even her telling me it’s not my gut is screaming at me something is wrong. I just need these results in asap, it’s like my life has been put on hold until I get them :(

  • Welcome to the forum Denise, although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

As so many of our members have found out, waiting for news really is one of the hardest parts of this process but we are sending you all our strength and support and hopefully it won't be much longer until your biopsy results are back.

If it would help to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They've very knowledgeable about cervical screening results and will do all they can to support you whilst you wait.

We're thinking of you Denise and will have our fingers crossed for good news.

    Kind regards,
