Bowel cancer

I was diagnosed with bowel cancer 8 weeks ago.  Then when I had an mri scan they found a shadow on my prostate. Now I'm having tests to see if it is cancer.  So far I've had no treatment for the bowel cancer and I'm noticing more blood than usual in my poo?

  • Hello Garry23

I'm sorry to hear that you were recently diagnosed with bowel cancer and that following an MRI scan, you now need further tests to determine what the shadow seen on your prostate might be.

It's understandable that you might be feeling worried about things, particularly as you have noticed more blood in your poo.

It's important that the specialists make sure they have all the information they need about your health before any treatment starts, so that they make sure you are getting access to the right treatment for your situation. Were you given details for a cancer nurse when you were given the bowel cancer diagnosis? If you were, then do get in touch with them to let them know about the increased bleeding. Hopefully, they will be able to give you an update about when you might next see the specialists to discuss treatment options as well.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses while you're waiting for news from the hospital you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friady 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Garry23 and let us know how you get on. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,
