Symptoms and strong line on at home fit test. Im a mess!

First of all I have a very suffer anxiety disorder with massive anxiety over health so this is making it so much harder, I am an absolute mess right now, I have been having symptoms for a while now at first they would only last a day and be gone the next but for the past 5 weeks the symptoms have been constant,I have constant pressure in the rectum ( which while I think about it ive had this for quite a long time), a frequent desperate urge to go to the toilet and either not passing anything or just passing mucus, episodes of mainly left sided stomach pain sometimes going in to my back, passing large amounts of clear mucus without even knowing and when I do go to the toilet its just small lumps but I have a feeling like something larger is pushing out ( if that makes sense). Ive always been constipated due to my medication but now I hardly go to the toilet at all and I have just done a home fit test because I couldnt get the one the doctor gave me back to the surgery and it has come up showing a very very dark line for blood. I am an absolute wreck ive been sick I cant eat and I am just beyond terrified ,I know there is no way ill be sleeping tonight surely it cant be anything else but cancer

  • Hello KLouise

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with ongoing issues with your health and that following a home FIT test you're feeling so anxious about things.

You mention in your post that constipation is an ongoing problem for you and the symptoms you've described do sound very much like those associated with constipation. It's important to remember that a positive FIT test can be caused by many problems other than cancer. Given everything you've mentioned in your post, including your health anxiety struggles, it would seem like a good idea to make an appointment to see your GP. They will be best placed to talk things through with you and arrange any treatment or referrals that may be appropriate.

In the meantime, if it would help to chat things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I do hope that you get some answers and reassurance soon.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
