I have a dark mark on the side of my big toe that has been there for about 2 months now , bit worried to what it could be , been googling , i know i shouldn't , but so many things are coming up
Is the mark on the side of your toe or the side of your toe nail? It could something innocent like a fungal infection or trauma (either an injury to your toe or walking a lot in ill fitting shoes). See your GP who should be able to tell if it's something treatable with fungal cream or it's deep bruising from trauma or, if unsure, he may photograph it & send it to a dermatologist to see if you need referring. Most marks on toes are easily treatable so see your GP and don't Google - it's not up to date information & it only focuses on serious health issues which doesn't apply for 90% of people.
Sorry for late reply ,ive been to drs , now waiting to see a skin specialist at the end of this month , bit worried because it says on my nhs app , suspected cancer , as anyone else had this ? And it seems a long time to wait for appointment, not sure if i should go to walk in centre at hospital . Not sure what to do .
They always put 'suspected cancer' on the referral so that it's dealt with quicker - I know it's worrying when you see it in black & white but focus on the 'suspected' - 75% of patients referred to dermatology are given a clean bill of health!
A 2 week referral is the norm I'm afraid. If you go to A&E or a walk in hospital clinic they can't do anything & will tell you to wait for your appointment with dermatology.
I know it's an anxious time but the only thing you can do is wait for your appointment. Even trying to get a private appointment (if you can afford it) won't be very much quicker because private consultants are just as busy as the NHS these days.
All I can suggest is that you try to distract yourself now for the next 2 weeks & try not to Google. If it only appeared 2 months ago you are still getting it checked out very quickly.
