Hi,
I found this forum and have been reading so many of your stories. My heart goes out to you all.
I have been unwell for some time with heavy menstrual periods. This has been going on for about 1.5 years but my husband had a stroke in that time and I just put it on the back burner. I finally got a GP apointment last year and was given Tranexamic Acid and sent for ultrasound.
After two ultrasounds, as they couldn't be certain what they'd found, they have found a polyp and I've been referred to gynae - non urgently. My endometrial lining was 49mm and described as slightly heterogeneous echo pattern.
Whilst I initially found non urgent reassuring, where I live the wait is up to one year. I have alot of the red flag symptoms and have been in hospital with my periods several times. Every month I suffer extreme bloating, sometimes with my stomach becoming distended, flooding and clots (which I was having before the tranexamic acid), the pain makes me weak and dizzy. I often leak through my clothes and bedding - at work the other day I bled over the floor. I also suffer with sciatica, which flares particularly badly before my period starts. This month, I was losing the feeling in my legs and had to go to hospital where I was given suppositories for the pain. Unbeknownst to me, I also had UTI, which I hadn't even been aware of with the other pain.
My iron stores are also incredibly low but my GP won't help arrange an infusion until I've seen gynae. I have just had to pay for one privately where they told me I was severely iron deficient.
Has anyone been through this and can offer any advice or words of wisdom? This is making me miserable. I am currently taking dihydrocodeine and diplofenac for the pain. I am exhausted. I've asked my GP to speed up my referral but I honestly don't know what the outcome will be. They aren't the most helpful.
