Can anyone offer any reassurance? Mum is 78 and had a FIT score of >200

Hi everyone, really hope someone can offer some words of reassurance or even some past experience. My mum is 78 and after a blood test it was recommended she have a FIT test, her score has come back as >200 as mentioned. Now she has already been diagnosed with diverticular disease or diverticulistis i can never remember which one. She is also on blood thinners.

She has had colonoscopy's in the past which have all come back ok, and the blood thinners are actually new since her most recent procedure which was around 13 years ago.

Really hope someone can offer some reassurance as going out of my mind with worry.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello KUEFC and welcome to the Cancer Chat forum.

I'm sorry for the worry your mum's FIT test result is causing. Although this type of result indicates that blood has been found in the stool it doesn't necessarily mean your mum has cancer as there could be other possible causes for the bleeding which will be investigated with more tests.

This topic is quite a common talking point within the Cancer Chat community and hopefully some of our members who have had the same or a similar result will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice.

If you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease until you know more.

We're sending you both all our support KUEFC and we'll have our fingers crossed for a good outcome.

    Kind regards,
