Small bowel - capsule colonoscopy showed it was narrow because of a growth. Now waiting for a biopsy. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

So I started to feel unwell in January 2025. Just thought it was pre menopausal so never done anything about it untill July last year I thought I'd go and see my doctor. Bloods got done and was phoned the next day from my GP and was admitted to hospital because my rbc was at 80 and both ferritin and folate were extremely low. Received a blood transfusion and iron infusions. I then had a qfit test as I was experiencing stomach upset and a change of bowel habits. Test came back high and I was forwarded for a colonoscopy and endoscopy.

Colonoscopy was clear but endoscopy came back that I had alot of bile in places. Had a CT scan which was clear apart from cysts on my liver. Was referred to another hospital as my bloods continued to drop and having bouts of diarrhoea and sickness. Had an MRI of the small bowel because my consultant felt the issue was coming from there. It was clear but the consultant said I needed a capsule colonoscopy as they are more accurate on picking up things going on. So had one done on the 4th June. Got a phonecall on the 19th June to say they had just looked at the footage and 3 hours into the 8 hour footage the camera had became stuck. I've been told I have a narrowing of the small bowel because of some type of growth. They asked me if I had passed the capsule because if I hadn't I would have had to have a scan. I had been sick and diarrhea the day after the procedure and they said this would have been because the capsule was stuck. I managed to pass it 3 days later.

So now I've to have a biopsy so waiting on contact from the hospital.

Sorry for the long post

  • I'm really sorry to hear what was found during your colonoscopy Ducky80, and that you're now waiting for a biopsy.

Waiting for news is always tough but I and the rest of the Cancer Chat community are sending you all our support and hopefully some of our members who have contended with something similar will share their experiences and advice with you soon.

If it would help to have a chat about any of this with one of our cancer nurses you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to answer your questions and ease your mind during this anxious and uncertain time.

Fingers crossed the hospital will be in touch with you soon and the growth that's been found isn't any cause for concern.
