Tongue lump 7 weeks… any advice?

Hello,

Just wanted to start by saying that I am already on the 2 week wait cancer pathway (well when my doctor does the referral I will be when I’m back from holiday).

I’m not sure if I can post a photo to show you but I have had a lump on the left side of my tongue for 7 weeks (possibly longer but looking back at photos, it was there 7 weeks ago). I don’t think it has changed in that time but I’ve only really been paying attention to it over the last 1-2 weeks. 3 days ago I noticed a shallow crater like looking patch on the underside of my tongue on the same side as the lump and today noticed 2 white patches that didn’t scrape off next to the lump.

it’s possible I bit my tongue but I don’t remember doing so and I haven’t felt any pain in the area.

Just wondered if anyone had similar symptoms and if so what happened (did they have a biopsy? Did it turn out cancerous? What was the timeline? Etc.)

Thanks in advance!

  • Hello Colourful123,

It's difficult to identify what's causing the symptoms, but I hope a biopsy will get to the bottom of things. If you'd like more information on your urgent referrals explained, you can visit our website. Situations can be different for different people, but that page could help you feel more informed and prepared. When you’re worried that you may have cancer, it can be natural to worry and want to look for answers, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the only person that can diagnose you is your doctor.

    I hope this is helpful,
