A little worried: been referred to a breast clinic following a doctors visit 3 1/2 weeks ago

A have been referred to a breast clinic following a doctors visit 3 1/2 weeks ago. I woke up one morning with blood on my bed covers coming from one of my nipples. 3 1/2 weeks later Im still bleeding. I have gone from being initially worried to thinking it will be fine, back to worrying again following another significant bleed last night.
I have now got an appointment next week, I’m scared of the outcome but relieved I’m finally going to see someone.
Has anyone had this problem & had a good outcome?

Thank you!

  • Hello ACDC1976 and a warm welcome to our forum,

How frightening it must have been for you to wake up one morning with blood on your bed covers coming from one of your nipples and you did the right thing in mentioning this to your doctor. It won't be long now until you are seen at the breast clinic and it's definitely something that needs to be looked at but try not to worry too much if you can as there can be many reasons for your symptoms and the important thing is that it will all soon be investigated and you will get a diagnosis and treatment to stop the bleeding.

I thought I would also share with you the information Breast Cancer Now have on their website on what happens at a breast clinic appointment so that you can feel better prepared for your appointment.

I hope that you will also hear from others on here who have had this problem before and that they will share with you what the outcome was for them.

Wishing you the best of luck for your appointment next week - fingers crossed you get some definite answers and that it all turns out to be nothing of concern!

    Best wishes,

  • Hi ACDC 1976,

A very warm welcome to the forum,

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms and understand the worry that this is causing you.

You have done the right thing by getting this investigated. I am glad to see that you have an appointment at the breast clinic this coming week and hope that they can put your mind to rest.

As to your question about outcome, it is impossible to predict what this will be. As our moderator Lucie, has said "try not to worry too much if you can as there can be many reasons for your symptoms and the important thing is that it will all soon be investigated and you will get a diagnosis and treatment to stop the bleeding." You will probably have some tests when you are at the breast clinic and these will determine what the cause is. Obviously, the outcome is also dependent on the cause.

I sincerely hope that all turns out well next week and that it won't take long to find the cause.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
