If my diagnosis is correct I have Bowen's disease which is extremely minor.
I found the Cancer Research information on a search and it seemed like the best place to chat to people confused about what they are told.
My GP diagnosed Bowen's disease and gave me 3 choices, watch it (I'd already done this for a year and tried a topical ointment), a chemotherapy ointment or excision.
As I'm risk averse, especially when *cancer is mentioned (even a pre-cancerous condition) I chose the latter.
However, I felt I would have been more comfortable not making the decision as they seemed very different options.
My husband had a photograph at a teledermatology clinic (he was fine) and I asked if I should have one (it's a private clinic the NHS uses). My GP agreed I should.
The resulting letter said seborrhoeic keratoses so I was expecting my GP to cancel the minor surgery but he didn't.
Three weeks ago the GP surgery called to book my minor surgery. I asked what the GP's view on the extra information was and was told I'd need an appointment.
The minor surgery was cancelled by the receptionist and a GP appointment made (it's tomorrow). I don't even know what to ask any more.
I trust my GP more than a private company but I'd like some joined up information about what to do.
I had UV light therapy as a child and I lived in a desert region for 7 years in my 40s which seem likely to be risk factors.
* My mum died of pancreatic cancer and my ex has acute aggressive leukaemia so I take any mention of possible cancer very seriously.
Thank you for reading this.
