Lymphoma vs Leukaemia

Hi

I would be very grateful for some advice and reassurance !

In a nutshell- I’m a perfectly ‘healthy’ 42 yr old.

over the past 12 months I’ve lost over 3 stone - I had a total hysterectomy last Feb due to going into early menopause / family history ( mother ovarian ca, Nan breast ca). Since then I have rapidly changed my diet so have put the loss down to that.
Here’s the however - I noticed some changes under my armpit a few weeks ago, no exact lumps just thicker skin and nodularity. I immediately stopped my HRT and went to the doctors.
I noticed shortly after a small, marble shaped hard lump above my collarbone and quite deep, this was Monday. Since then I have now got 3 smaller raised nodes in my neck and last night after checking every inch of me - I have now got a hard lump in my groin.
im awaiting a ultrasound, bloods have shown slight anemia and low neutrophils. All other bloods are normal, rechecking these again next week.
Would it be possible for lumps to appear in such a short space of time ? My appetite has diminished significantly and I feel totally exhausted and could sleep all day if I was able too, this is totally new. I’m also experiencing terrible night sweats but confused if this is because I’ve abruptly started HRT ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, like everyone on here I’m scared to death.

  • Hi Leanne, I think only those qualified  can reassure you from the medical side of things but I think everyone on here can relate to the ‘scared to death’ feeling when you are worried about something to do with your health.

I worried following a recent mammogram recall- convinced myself I could feel all sorts of new lumps/bumps etc that I’d not felt before & that they were the reason for my recall.  I lost my appetite, couldn’t sleep or think about anything else.  In the end the ‘change’ & reason for the recall was due to a ‘spot/zit’ on my right breast & the sensitive equipment had picked this up as being a change from my previous mammogram & I was subsequently discharged & all was well.  My appetite returned immediately!  Worry is a big contributor to loss of appetite/weight loss but telling ourselves not to worry is pointless if you’re a worrier (like me).

You’ve done the right thing going to your doctor & they will be ‘on it’ now you’ve explained your situation.  I really hope you find out soon the cause of these changes you’re experiencing as the waiting is so hard when you just want answers.  I’m a ‘talker’ & needed to continually be talking about my worries (which drove my husband mad) so I found this forum useful just to get my feelings  out.  Hopefully, one of the medics on here can offer you some advice & I’m sure other members will have had a similar experience & will respond to you.

Good luck & hope you get everything sorted very soon.

    Take care

    xx
