10 Centimetre Rectal Polyp - will need 7 hour surgery to remove it. Has anyone else been through something like this?

At colonoscopy yesterday after positive qFIT test, I was told I have a "giant" 100mm rectal polyp.  Today I've been called in urgently for blood tests and CT (to check my trunk for cancer) scan, in a couple of days.  I cannot tell you how terrified I am.  Especially as I cannot find anyone on forums that has had such a large rectal polyp.  I've been told, regardless of biopsy results, I will require a 7 hour surgery at a specialist hospital to remove polyp.  Has anyone been through anything like this?  Thank you for reading, if you got this far xx

  • MRI also now booked for Wednesday

    Things are moving fast!

  • Hi Scary_Cee-Cee, and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry to hear about the polyp that was found during your colonoscopy and for the worry this and the speed at which further tests have been requested is causing.

I know this must all be pretty scary right now but our members are here to support you and hopefully those who have been in a similar situation will share their experiences and advice with you soon.

If it would help, we also have a team of cancer nurses you can talk to on 0808 800 4040. The phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to answer your questions and support you whilst you wait.

In the meantime, I'm wishing you all the best with your MRI. If you're feeling up to it, do let us know how things go.

We'll be thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed that all your test results will bring good news when they come through.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Thanks so much Steph Just getting ready for my scans now

I'm not sure when I'll get results and obviously still awaiting biopsy results.  I feel like I have no point of contact at the moment but I'm assuming I will be contacted when the MDT meeting has taken place.  Just hope it's soon, as I'm not sleeping (only six hours sleep over the last two nights).  Exhausted and hyper all at the same time!
