Calprotectin over 600 and positive FIT test

Hello

I have had occasional bouts of horrendous diarrhoea for a while. I finally went to the GP and did stool tests, which came back with calprotectin over 600 and a positive FIT test. I wasn't expecting that.

I have a colonoscopy next week.

What is the likelihood of it just being an infection? GP is thinking IBD but wants to rule cancer out as well.

  • Hello VRo and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

You did the right thing to go to the GP after you noticed these bouts of diarrhoea. This is definitely something that needs to be flagged with your doctor but try not to worry too much as there are many conditions that can tigger a positive FIT test.

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck for your colonoscopy next week and wanted to share with you the information we have on our website on the colonoscopy and if you have any questions, our nurse helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (but closed this bank holiday Monday)

It sounds like the GP is not overly worried but the colonoscopy will be the best diagnostic tool to find out what is causing these issues. I hope everything goes well for you next week and that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
