3.2cm Liver Lesion

I was referred on the two week pathway for suspected kidney cancer.  Had CT scan on 26 April.  On 1 May I saw on my NHS app referral to gastro but no mention of what was seen.  I ring urology who advise something was seen so they referred me on the fast track, 14 May still never heard anything. I logged in my NHS app again to see if anything was updated and there it was 3.2cm heterogenously enhancing subcapsular area in the right hepatic lobe. I couldn’t believe what I saw as still not heard heard anything from specialist.  Getting so anxious as I am having so many issues with tummy and in pain   Has any body else had this any advice please

  • Maybe request a second opinion. Good luck and we are all here for you. The helpline number is 0808 800 4040

  • Hello Summergirl74

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some recent health issues that resulted in you needing a CT scan. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious, given that the hospital has told you something was noted in your CT scan and that you've now been referred to another team.

For many people, this period of waiting and uncertainty can be really difficult, and it's natural that we think about all possible outcomes. What might be helpful for you to try and keep in mind is that there could be many different reasons other than cancer for this lesion that's been seen on your scan. While it's a natural response to worry about these things, it won't change the outcome, but it will leave you feeling more unwell in the meantime, so if you can try and keep busy while you're waiting to see the specialist, this may help. We have some advice about waiting for news in this article

As it's been a few weeks now since you saw on your app that you were referred to the gastro team, and you were told by the urology department that this was a fast-track referral, there's certainly no harm in giving the hospital another call to find out what is happening with your referral. Hopefully, they will be able to give you some idea about when you may hear regarding an appointment date.

In the meantime, if it would help to talk things through with one of our team of nurses, you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Summergirl74 and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn thank you for your reply means a lot.  I have rang gastro to be informed they have a shortage of consultants and still yet to be triaged.  I was given a secretary’s number I left message but still nothing.  My aniexty is hitting the roof. The waiting is hurrendous let alone to see the result on the NHS app and get no call from urology who originally did the scan to rule out kidney cancer. Am going out of my mind thank you
