5cm ovarian cyst on outside of ovary

I am a 28 years old female,

I had my initial ultrasound/transvaginal ultrasound back in January and they diagnosed a 5cm abnormal cyst on my right ovary, they told me my urgent referral would be done and they will most likely need to do an MRI as the cyst has a lot of suspicious characteristics. Thick walls, internal blood flow, separate sections. They also told me they could not see all of the cyst inside - which is why the MRI is needed to get a full view of what’s inside.

I did complete an ovary blood test back in January however since then my gynaecology consultant told me this test can be vague and unreliable so they did another blood test which tests for more cancer markers than the ovary test however my mind can’t stop racing,

Could a cyst with these suspicious characteristics still be non cancerous?

  • Hi Leigh95,

In a previous post, I shared a page with advice on coping with waiting for news. I hope this will be useful while we wait for more news from your doctor, but cyst can be occur for all sorts of reasons so it's difficult to answer your question. If you'd like to speak to one of our cancer nurses, you can have a confidential conversation on our free helpline. You can call 0808 800 4040 and lines open from 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.
