Positive FIT ( 129) and calprotectin test ( 2861)

Good morning,

A few weeks back i started getting wave like lower abdomen cramps that made me bend over, couldn't eat for about a week as just didnt want to as felt like it was the food causing the cramps and felt shivery despite the warmer weather and just kept sleeping.  I went to the gp who thought it was Appendicitis which turned out it wasnt. I did mention i think it was h pylori as I have had it before but the pain i had before from that was actually in my stomach and was constant.  My gp said it cant be h pylori as the cramps are lower in my abdomen ( the part between my belly button and pubic area).

I then started getting loser stools which wasn't uncommon as for months I have had loose stools and mucas in there. This however was very watery and loose and on one day I went about 15 times in 18 hours.

With this I started to complain more to the gp and got asked to do 3 stoll tests.

1st test - low and behold h pylori positive, I got told however this wont explain the lower abdomen cramps.

2nd test - fit test came back as 129ug

3rd test - calprotectin came back at 2861ug

Now, I am not worrying as such as I believe its the h pylori that has caused the high numbers. Although again I got told h pylori wont cause that high of a number. But cancer does run seemingly in my family, 5 relatives in the last 10 years have had it, all various types.  I am a 34 year old male with an already dodgy immune system and hypertension. It all just is alot to take at the moment as I feel really run down and am the one having to chase my GP.

Apologise if this does not make full sense, it is 1am and I am half asleep!

  • Hello Laticsash92,

I'm sorry to hear about the symptoms you have and that you've felt you've had to chase your GP. It's important that your concerns are addressed so do chase when you need to and look after yourself when you are not chasing. When you’re worried that you may have cancer, it is natural to worry or want to look for answers, but sometimes this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the only person that can diagnose you is your doctor. I hope you get to the bottom of these cramps at a future appointment. In the meantime you could speak to one of our dedicated cancer nurses on our free helpline. You can call 0808 800 4040 and lines are open 9 to 5 Monday to Friday. In the meantime, there's also useful tips around coping with waiting for news on our website.

    I hope this is helpful,
