2ww pathway for breast lump. How does this all work?

Hi All,

I found a lump in my left breast which did not go away, so after 2 months of waiting to see if it would go away I booked a GP appointment.

The GP referred me using the 2WW pathway. He said the lumpnwasnt as moveable as hebeould like. He also found another lump, much much larger, since he has said it is can feel it and would never have considered that a lump, i just assumed it was a thicker area. So i am so pleased I went. He also asked me to squeeze the 'non concerning' breast to ensure it didnt leak, but it did, to which he immediately looked at the nurse like he had been slapped in the face, took a moment to composed himself, but didnt ask me to do the same on the concerning breast. I am currently only on day 3 since referral.

Does anyone have any ideas on the time scale? Will the appointment be within this two week wait or will I get an appointment letter within 2 weeks and appointment after that?

Looking at the NHS APP I can see the referral, which that appointment upload to that app prior to receiving the letter?

Has anyone had anything similar?

Sorry for the potentially silly questions I just like to be prepared and hate the unknown.

Thank you in advance

  • Hi

I am currently on the urgent 2 week waiting list also. So sorry I can provide much experience but I was referred on Friday and today I got a call to choose which hospital I would preferred to be seen at as I have two fairly close to me (1 hour away). On the app it says that they have now received my referral and I will here from them before Friday this week. So assuming tomorrow.

Hope everything goes ok for you.

  • Hi,

Thank you so much for your reply.

Ohh that is fairly quick to hear from them. I hope you are attending an appointment just as quick from there on!

GP sent my referral on monday, yesterday it was in the "referral list" of the app.

Thank you. Hope it all goes well for you too.
