Waiting Endometrial Biopsy results - how long do they take?

Hi everyone. I was wondering how long it took to get your Biopsy results back? I've been post-menopause for 3 years, and finally started HRT nearly 8 months ago, hoping it would help with the hot flushes and mood swings. I was told that it's normal to get a bit of bleeding when you first start taking HRT(I'm on the Fem seven conti patches and Estroil cream). But I was lucky so I thought, as had no bleeding or spotting, that was until 6 and a half months later, I noticed some blood on the 7th of this March, which gradually got heavier, and lasted 6 days.

So first thing Monday morning on the 9th rang my GP, they were pretty good and booked me in for a same-day appointment a few hours later. my GP did some swabs and referred me under the 2-week pathway, swabs came back clear, and i then had my appointment for pelvic and transvaginal scans on Friday the 20th, Gp rang me on the monday morning (23rd) to say as the scan showed my Endometrial lining was a bit higher at 6.5, so she was referring me for a biopsy which I had on the 8th of this month. Since my first bleed on the 7th, I've had 3 more bleeds lasting 3 days and two, and I also bleed for 2 days after my biopsy, which I know is normal.

Just wondering the rough time frame I can expect to wait? The doctor who did my biopsy said within 2-3 weeks, but I've also read that if it was something of concern, I'd hear back sooner?. I have really bad anxiety anyway and am finding it so hard to not worry and think the worst, especially as ive been getting pretty painful pelvic cramps. Not sure if it's just my anxiety bringing it on or if it's to do with my womb and something is wrong. My GP was brilliant and has prescribed me Diazepam for now to help me, it takes the edge off, but I'm still a bit of a mess mentally tbh.

Does anyone think Id of heard back by now if it was anything serious?, (I did ring yesterday btw and was told the results aren't back yet).

Thank you to anyone who replies

  • Hello Autumnsunsetoverthemountains,

I noticed you haven't had a reply just yet so I wanted to reassure you that your post has been seen, and offer you a very warm welcome to the Cancer Chat forum as well.

I'm sorry about the anxious 2 - 3 week wait you now have for your biopsy results. Waiting for news is never easy but I hope our guide will help to calm your mind until you know more. You may find some of the tips and advice the NHS have on managing anxiety to be useful at this time as well.

The length of time you wait for results can differ depending on what part of the country you're in and if that hospital is dealing with any backlogs or staff shortages, but fingers crossed your results will come through during the time frame you've been given, and that they bring good news when they do.

Our members know just how tough this can be, so you are not alone Aumtumsunsetoverthemountains, and hopefully you will receive some support and advice from the community soon.

    Kind regards,
