Scared- possible ovarian cancer

Hi, I am looking for others experiences really as very scared.

I ended up in hospital in November and December due to to kidney stones. I underwent CT scans both in November and December due to the kidney stones and the scan showed up ovarian cysts on both ovaries. They were reviewed by gynae who did not appear concerned and I was put on a 48 week waitlist.

I underwent a further CT scan in January which was a follow up after a hospital admission in December for kidney stones. The scan showed cysts around 6cm and a swollen right kidney (likely to be due to the recent stones which had since passed).

I had a follow up ultrasound last week which revealed a 6cm ovarian cyst on my right ovary with papillary projections (concerning features) and a swollen left kidney. My left ovary could not be seen. I followed up with my GP who ordered urgent blood tests and a stool sample. All bloods were fine except my CA125 which had risen from 17 in December to 42 last week.

I am on the 2 week fast track and have an urgent MRI Friday. I had a call from the registrar today who explained the next steps.

I am really just looking for anyone with similar experience or who is also at this stage? The registrar said people who are diagnosed are normally in the hundreds and thousands for CA125 but I have also read some people were diagnosed when their CA125 was not that high. Also to add, I have been experiencing abdominal pain but periods etc all normal. Thanks

  • Hello Forky1234,

I'm sorry to hear how scared you're feeling.

When youre worried that you may have cancer, it can be natural to worry or think the worst, especially as the cysts were found during a hospital visit. Worrying can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better, so it's important to be kind to yourself. As you're waiting for your MRI on Friday, it might be helpful to focus on other things until where the registrar will be able to address your concerns. There is also guidance on our website around coping with waiting for news, which I hope will be useful in the meantime.

Let us know how you get on,
