Enlarged lymph node

Hi,

So I've had a painless lump under my jaw in the parotid gland now for 7 weeks. 2 weeks ago I was sent for bloods and put on the two week pathway. My bloods were clear and had an ultrasound last week. It was found I had an enlarged lymthnode that was 2cm under my jaw and they found a second enlarged lymthnode further down my neck that is 3cm that can't be felt or seen.

On Tuesday I ended up in a and e as I had started with pins and needles and numbness in my face. They did a head ct to look at the brain that was fine and said wait for my ENT appointment on friday.

Fast forward today I had an ent appointment and had a camera up my nose and down my throat which didnt show anything. I've now been referred for an MRI next week.

Is this likely to be cancer or could it really just be a reactive lymnode and how long will it take to go down? It's been nearly 2 months now. This pins and needles in my face is really frustrating.

Has anyone else been in this situation? I think my because my bloods are clear and im only having night sweats a few times a week they aren't as concerned?

  • Hello Emilyt and a warm welcome to our forum,

You certainly did the right thing in getting this painless lump looked at and it's reassuring news that your bloods were clear. The episode where you experienced pins and needles as well as numbness in your face and went to A&E  must have been rather frightening though but I am glad the head CT scan was all fine.

It's reassuring that the ENT appointment didn't flag anything but it's good that they are being thorough and that you will be having an MRI next week. It's all a bit of a waiting game for you now and I hope that it won't be long until you find the cause for these pins and needles. Try if you can not to anticipate too much what it might be as only the scan and test results will give you proper answers so it's best to try if you can to stay away from the temptation to look things up online as this will only make you feel more anxious without giving any credible answers. We have helpful tips with great coping strategies while you are waiting

I hope that you will soon get to the bottom of what has caused the pins and needles on your face and that you will get to talk to others on here who have been in a similar situation and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that you get some clarity soon and that it all turns out to be nothing concerning.

    Best wishes,
