Abnormal moles

Attended gp with abnormal moles on my stomach and legs. One is heart shaped with a shadow outline and the other one is different shape with shadow outline. Leg one is not in regular size it’s 1cm and the other 2 are 1cm also

can you advise what the outcome could be? Will they remove as unusual even if nothing sinister?

  • Can I add I attended telederm clinic today and got them Imaged. I asked nurse if anything in them? She replied nothing is jumping out at me but I’m not great at recognising moles. Only if it was visual skin cancer ? I told her I’m very positive I will take all in my stride she just said the doctor will phone me or send a letter or if not needing treatment will possible send a letter of discharge? Don’t no how to take the appointment.  ???

  • I'm sorry to hear you are awaiting the result of your telederm appointment. The staff that undertake this aren't trained to examine the photos, they are just trained to take the photos. It's the dermatologist who receives them that will take a close look & see if anything causes the need to see you in person & then decide if they are suspicious and need removing for a biopsy.

75% of patients seen by Dermatology are given a clean bill of health. Hopefully the photos don't give the dermatologist any cause for concern but if they ask you to come in for an appointment, don't panic. They don't usually remove them at the appointment but will arrange it for a later date. It's done under local anesthetic as a day patient & they may not remove all of them, only those they feel look suspicious (I've had 7 removed over the years & only 1 was melanoma).

I hope you aren't waiting too long to hear from them. Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
