cancer pathway for cervix

Hiya everyone, i hope someone can share some information to ease my mind.

I went to the doctor two days ago as last few months i’ve had constant dull period ache all through the month. Then the last month i’ve had on and off spotting with no real consistency as to when. just randomly get bad stomach cramps and then then spotting. and sex when i have it (which isn’t often) is not comfortable at all.

the doctor said there is cervical ectopy with contact bleeding spot and discharge. she referred me under the 2 weeks referral and for an ultrasound.

she said ectopy was often caused by hormones. however i’m on the copper coil and had my last child a year and a half ago with no issues until recently. andbloods say hormone/throid ect is all normal.

if she feels it’s a cervical ectopy, why have i been referred and why in her referral form would she say that my cervix appearnwce is consistent with malignancy?

last smear was three years ago and was finally clear after a leetz for cin 1 before that.

sorry for the long one here! just feeling very stressed, and don’t want to be for no reason!

  • Hello kmorri

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some health concerns over the last few months. It's good to know that you've already seen your GP and they have decided to refer you to a specialist for further investigations. It's understandable that you might be feeling anxious about things.

I'm unsure why your GP has written malignancy on your referral, but you can always call the GP surgery and ask to speak with the doctor for some clarity on this. If there is cervical ectropion present, then having a referral to see the specialist is still a good idea, as this can be treated and will hopefully help with the symptoms you've been experiencing. There's some information about how this can be treated available from the NHS

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

Do let us know how you get kmorri - we're here for you.

    Best wishes,
