Post menopausal bleed - scan has been requested but bleeding is getting heavier. Am I being over anxious?

I am 64 years old, had an emergency right colonectomy 20 months ago to remove a cancerous tumour, I have had 4 days of vaginal bleeding getting increasingly heavier, it started with spotting and is now soaking through a pad every 3 hours.

I spoke with my GP who dint seem overly concerned and said he would request a scan. Am i being over anxious.

  • Hi scaredy_kaz,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's natural to be concerned - although it's good that your doctor didn't seem worried, I can understand you wanting to check.

I'm not sure if the GP gave you a timescale for how long to expect to wait - for example whether it was an urgent referral or not. If they didn't, it would be useful to give them a call to find this out.

It's also OK to ask more questions if you feel worried or if there was more you wanted to discuss.

You are also welcome to speak to our nurses if you'd like to talk things through. You can either post in the 'Ask the Nurses' section of this forum, or you can call freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,
