Advice on abnormalities seen on cervix

I went to my gp because of post menopausal bleeding. She referred me on the 2 week pathway saying she could see an area on my cervix during the examination which potentially could be the source of bleeding.

I had an internal ultrasound and was told my womb lining was fine, I had a couple of cysts on my ovary and they'll rescan in 4 months.

Since then I had more bleeding so checked with gp its ok to.wait for the appointment in 4 months. She said she was writing to the hospital asking if someone checked my cervix (as I told her they did an ultrasound, the gp doesn't seem to have any information on what they did).

Would the ultrasound pick up any problems on my cervix? Id assumed it would have but now the gp has written again to the hospital marking it urgent. So my worry has rekindled!

  • I'm sorry to hear the bleeding has continued and that you're anxiously waiting to find out if your cervix was checked when you went for your ultrasound.

We know how difficult this time can be, especially over a bank holiday weekend when you're unable to get in touch with anyone for an update, but we're here for you 50andhere and I hope this guide we have on how to cope with waiting for news will help to calm your mind whilst you wait.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will stop by when they can to share their experiences and advice, and our cancer nurses will also be available from Tuesday onwards between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040, if you'd like to discuss this with them as well. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to address your concerns.

In the meantime, try to stay busy and distracted if you can and fingers crossed you'll get some answers soon.

    Kind regards,
