Advice please - been having irregular bleeding for 8 days. I'm terrified I have cancer

I’m 39, sterilised and no chance of pregnancy.

my periods are normally like clockwork and last for 3-4 days.

my period at the end of February was slightly lighter than usual, but about 2 weeks after I started having brown blood. It then turned red. I saw the nurse at my GP who did an examination, said she couldn’t feel anything but that the “vaginal vault was full” whatever that means. She said there was a lot of brown blood in there obscuring my cervix. I’ve now had this bleeding for 8 days. Very little comes out on the pad, but if I use a tampon it soaks it. If I have sex lots comes out on my partner. If I go to the toilet I see it on the paper. So it seems to be all inside and not really coming out. But there’s LOADS inside.

im terrified I have cancer as I’m widowed with young kids.

  • Also tmi but my vagina feels tighter than normal when having sex or using tampons

  • Hello Blonde87777 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about the bleeding you've been having and for the worry this is understandably causing.

Experiencing any unusual or unexplained symptoms is always concerning but you did the right thing by going to your GP to get this checked out. If your symptoms have got worse since seeing them, don't hesitate to get back in touch to let them know and find out what tests or further investigation can take place so you can find out the cause.

Many of our members have found themselves in similar situations so they know just how scary and unsettling this time can be, so you are not alone Blonde87777, and hopefully you will receive some support and advice from them soon.

In the meantime, if it would help to talk to one of our cancer nurses about this you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very understanding and will do all they can to support you.

Our thoughts are with you Blonde87777 and we'll have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,
