Had a breast biopsy this week but doctor wants to do an additional biopsy and CT scan asap - Is this normal?

breast biopsy was done this week on tueday, the doctor wants to do a CT scan ASAP and wants me to have an ultrasound guided biopsy of some lymph nodes - are the additional biopsy and CT normal? Especially if they want to do they ASAP?

anyone else experiencing the same sort of thing? The doctor has said he is very concerned/worried. I’m going out of my mind with worry but trying to pray and have positive thoughts that it will be benign, I really hope it is. Apart from the lump under my arm that is oozing with liquid and little blood I feel fine - has anyone else had this?

  • Hello Chucks123

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently needed to attend the breast clinic and that, following some initial tests, the consultant has requested further scans and biopsies. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

It's not uncommon for additional investigations to be requested during a first appointment. This is because the specialist will want to have all the information available before they make a diagnosis and discuss treatment options with you.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult. The unknown is a scary prospect to face, and it's natural to have questions and concerns. I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our team of nurses ahead of your next appointment. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for answers and the specialist will be able to give you some reassurance.

Keep in touch Chucks123 and let us know how you get on - we're here for you.

    Best wishes,
