One day at a time - Strictures found in my colon during colonoscopy. They said it could be cancer. I'll wait for the results but I'm not holding my breath

Have been to hospital today for a colonoscopy.  They discovered strictures in my colon and I'm now waiting for a CT scan and MRI scan to see what it is . They said it could be cancer. I'm still getting my head around it all. My mum is in a care home on end of life care from lung cancer which has spread to her bones.  Not sure how long she'll have left as they gave her less than a year to live, that was 7months ago. I moved back in with my mum in 1999 and havent moved out. Yesterday because of doing the bowel prep I didn't see her.  It was really weird as have spent most days with her since moving home. She's my mum but also my friend.  I regard her as my rock. When she dies I could be homeless as we rent privately and my nephew who also lives with us. So getting this diagnosis was not a good thing.  Ile wait till the results from the scans, but I'm not holding my breath about them.

  • Hello Cherisnuts65

I'm so sorry to hear that your Mum is in the final stages of life due to lung cancer, and that on top of this, your recent colonoscopy has suggested that you may have your own cancer diagnosis to deal with as well. I'm sure that at times it all feels overwhelming.

I hope that your Mum is being well cared for and that you're able to spend time with her.

We know that for many people this period of uncertainty while waiting for additional tests and results can be difficult. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for answers and the specialists will be able to give you some reassurance as well.

In the meantime, if it would help to talk things through with one of our team of nurses you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. You can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on Cherisnuts65 - we're here for you.

    Best wishes,
