Long wait for support - been referred for urgent breast screening but wait times are crazy

I have been referred for urgent breast screening however the wait times are crazy. I have looked at private examinations but due to being under 40 I don't seem to qualify for a mammogram privately . Any advice please

    Hi Vicky56, 

    I am so sorry to hear that the waiting times have been crazy - did they give you an estimate as to how long you might have to wait? It might be worth trying to get in touch with them or your surgery and finding out how quickly you might be seen. If you have been referred for urgent breast screening, hopefully that means you won't have to wait too long.

    There is useful information on our website on breast screening you might want to have a look at. It might be worth getting in touch with our cancer nurses to talk through your options and they might be able to guide you further. You can call them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Hi Vicky I am in the same boat. I saw the GP last Thursdsy who did the referral while I was there. I got an appointment through the next day but it's not until 21st April so still another 5 weeks even though its a 2ww referral! 

    I rang them this morning to see if there were any earlier appointments available but there isn't any. Seems such a long time to wait when its an urgent appointment.

    It's awful isn't it. I have my app next week thankfully but it just seems so awful that people are waiting. Good luck for your app
