Awaiting breast biopsy results - told I would get the results in 2 weeks but found out they're still with the lab. Really concerned this isn't a fibroadenoma

I found a lump in the left breast, upper quadrant and had an ultrasound and core biopsy on the 14th February. The consultant was convinced it was a fibroadenoma however when I had the ultrasound the person wanted to take a biopsy, they took two samples.  It’s a 18mm palpable lump, the consultant said to me I will receive the results through the post within two weeks. It has now been two weeks and two days so I called the breast clinic, and the results are still with the lab. Which has really concerned me, i understand the lab could be busy but surely after two weeks if it was just a fibroadenoma they would’ve at least had them sent back ready for the MDT meeting especially when the consultant had given me a timeline to expect.  just feel really concerned and my head is all over at the moment.

I am an oncology nurse myself and having knowledge can definitely be a disadvantage sometimes. I’m just not convinced and feel like my gut is preparing me for something other than a fibroadenoma. I previously had a major duct excision on the right breast, great aunt had breast cancer but no other family that I know of.

Any stories or advice would be great.

Thank you

  • Hi Emily,

I'm sorry to hear you're still waiting for your results despite being told you would get them in 2 weeks. This must be very frustrating but fingers crossed the lab will process your results soon and you will finally get some much needed answers and peace of mind.

Hopefully some of our members will share their stories and advice with you soon but if it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all that they can to help.

Our thoughts are with you Emily and we hope your results bring good news when they come through.

    Kind regards,
