Swollen lymph nodes for 6 weeks

I am just looking for some advice as my health anxiety is driving me insane since I found some lumps on my neck.

on New Year’s Eve I felt a lump at the top of my neck just below my scalp, I had been having some scalp issues for a good few months so thought maybe it was related. A week later I felt a second smaller pea sized lump on the same side but further down the neck. I would say both mobile and not painful, unless I pushed down on them I could feel some aching.

I went to the doctors got put on a cause of antibiotics lump the larger lump did decrease but then a week later came back bigger the size of a grape and tender. Went back to the doctors who felt it advised it was a reactive lymph node and that they would refer me to have an ultrasound due to having it nearly 5 weeks by this point. Was told I was not able to be fast tracked as I would have had to had the lump 6 weeks to do so.

This point still have some scalp inflammation and started a medicated shampoo. The larger lump has gone down a lot, it seems to flare up in my sleep but fine through the day. The second lump is still in my neck lower down and I would say the size of a bean. Still waiting to hear on when my ultrasound will be, but the fact the lump is still there I am worrying so much.

Do any of this sound sinister? I know I can’t get the answer I need until my scan but just wonder if anyone has had anything similar.

thanks in advance.

  • Hello soph1991m

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some concerns about lumps on your scalp following an infection. It's good to know that you made a follow-up appointment with your GP who referred you for an ultrasound. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the appointment and the team will be able to give you some reassurance when you see them.

If it would help to talk through your concerns with one of our nurses while you're waiting for your appointment, you're welcome to call them. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that things ettle for you soon and that you get some reassurance.

    Best wishes,
