Fit test of 200. Terrified.

Hi everyone,

I'm a 35 year old Mother to 3 younger children. My youngest is only 3 months old.

During the last few weeks of my pregnancy I had 2 episodes of excruciating pain when I needed to pooh. It was so bad I couldn't stand up straight. I suffered with constipation but these episodes still seemed extreme.

Things returned to normal after I gave birth but then about a month ago, I started having a lot of pain again when I needed to pooh, both beforehand and during. I went to the GP who ordered a FIT test and the results came back today as being 200, which she said is really high. My blood test results are all normal, no anemia. I've had one episode of visible blood and mucous, but to be honest I haven't ever really looked properly as I've been so busy.

I am terrified. I've never had any cramping with bowel movements before. I had a positive FIT test back in 2022 but it was only 34 and the subsequent colonoscopy showed nothing. This time the number is so much higher and I've been having a lot of pain.

I've been constipated plenty of times before so I don't think it's that. I really have a bad feeling about it.

I don't know how I would cope with cancer treatment. We have no one to help. I really feel like I'm going to die.

  • Honestly, if you had a colonoscopy that showed nothing in 2022, the odds of cancer are very low indeed. It usually takes 10-15 years for a polyp to turn cancerous, I believe. Colon cancer is also comparatively rare in people of your age.

Lots of things can cause blood in the stool and really at 34 and within five years of a colonoscopy, cancer is the least likely option. A FIT test only says you have blood in the stool. It doesn't suggest anything about what might be causing it. Could be something really minor.
