Breast & armpit lumps found by my GP. Been referred to the breast clinic and I can't stop thinking the worst. I'm only 29

Hi all

I have been having pain in my left breast on and off, that radiates under my armpit, today I seen my GP who could feel 2 small pea size lumps in my armpit and breast, she said it seems begin and she wouldnt reffer me if I didnt have a strong history of cancer in my family ( I believe she was saying that to boost my spirit up as I was teary ), I have also been having muscle and joint pain in my lower back that radiates to my upper back, armpits, chest etc, very unusual as I have always been fit, healthy, never had any medical issues as I am 29.

I have been referred to the breast clinic to have scans and possible biopsies, I cant stop thinking of the worst, has anyone had any similar experiences? I cant wrap my head around the muscle and joint pains around my body, my doctor said it could just be anxiety which is total rubbish, I dont suffer with anxiety however I am now. She couldn't really give me straight answers or help me to suggest why the muscle aches and breast lumps at the same time?

I have been put through as fast tracked and will have my appointment within 2 weeks.

Thanks..x

  • Hello Aom2911

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some concerns about your breast health. It's good to know that you've already seen your GP, who has referred you for an appointment at the breast clinic.

We know that for many people, this period of waiting and uncertainty can be really difficult. It may hel pto keep in mind that the majority of people seen by breast specialists are not diagnosed with cancer. It's entirely possible that the aches and pains you've also mentioned to the GP are unrelated to this lump, so try to keep a positive mindset as it will make this period of waiting a little easier. We have some tips and advice about waiting for news that may also help.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, informraion and help they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
