Lump in my 12 year old's breast around her areola. As a mum I'm worried sick. Has anyone experienced this and what was the outcome?

My 12 years old period is late and she found a lump under her areola, the surface was quite red and painful as well. Few days has past now the redness is gone and the pain has really gone down almost completely gone except when she really pressed it firmly. She’s always had irregular period but this time she missed it and a lump surfaced, as a mum I am worried sick. I have booked a GP appointment to be seen in 10 days time. Has anyone experienced this and what’s the outcome. I read it’s very rare for teens to have BC.

  • Hello Akrosy123

I'm sorry to hear that your daughter has had some problems with a lump in her breast. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what this might be.

It's good to know that you've already made an appointment for her to see your GP and hopefully they will be able to give you both some reassurance and advice.

You might find it helpful to have a look at this information on the Breast Cancer Now website about breast cacner and teenagers. In the meantime, if you'd like to give our nurses a call I know they will be happy to listen and offfer any advice and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that things settle for your daughter soon.

    Best wishes,
