  2. Doctor thought it was quince and sent him to hospital. 3 doctors examined him 2 agreed quince but one had doubts so requested scan.
  3. Scan showed suspicious matter in this throat, 2 lymph glands inflamed in neck, 2 nodules on lung and something showing on kidney.
  4. Took biopsy of throat and now we wait for results.

It sounds like things have moved very quickly, from thinking it might be quinsy to having scans and a biopsy, and now you are left in this waiting game.

It’s completely natural to start asking about chances, stages and treatment, especially when different areas have been mentioned on the scan. But the biopsy results are really the key to understanding what is going on. Until those results are back, no one can say whether it is cancer, what stage it might be, or what treatment would be offered. The doctors need that clear information first before they can give you a proper picture.

I know it is easier said than done but try if you can not to jump ahead to worst-case scenarios. If you feel it would help to talk things through with someone outside of your immediate circle, our nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. They can listen and explain how these investigations usually work, which sometimes helps to make things feel a little more manageable.

I hope you won’t have to wait too much longer for the results, and that you will soon have clearer answers.

Best wishes to you and your husband,
