Signs & symptoms - been told I have cervical ectropion and been referred for a colposcopy. I'm extremely anxious. Has anyone else had this?

Hello,

I am looking for a bit of advice, I think.

I have been presenting myself to local sexual health clinic for almost 2 years with an ongoing issue. I have a really disgusting smell coming from my lady parts, I have been bleeding outside my period and always bleed after sex with my partner. I have had 3 or 4 STI tests all negative, I am up to date with my smear tests. I have been back and forth and I have said something isn't right.

I was examined with a speculum back in August last year and it was noted that I have a large vessel on my cervix, I experience pain when the Dr used fingers and pressed down on my pubic area. She referred me to a gynaecologist consultant, I had that appointment last Monday, I was given an internal scan then another speculum exam, the Dr said my cervix was very red and said I have a cervical ectropion, she then asked to take a biopsy and has referred me for a colposcopy, not urgently.

I am having extreme anxiety about this and I am fearing the worst. I have no one to talk to about this.

Has anyone had these symptoms? If so what was your outcome?

I know we are all different, any advice or support will be appreciated.

Thanks

  • Hello Mango-92,

It's difficult to determine what is wrong from your symptoms, as there can occur for all sorts of reasons. This is why it's good that you're being referred for further tests. I can imagine you might be anxious at the time, so important to look after your wellbeing first and foremost. Anxiety UK has some useful information and we have coping with waiting for news tips on our website. There is also guidance around the colposcopy test, which I hope will be helpful and make you feel more prepared.

I hope it all goes ok and you get to the bottom of things,

  • Hi there, I hope everything went well for you? I am in a similar situation and the wait is agonising. Are you OK?

  • Hey. Thanks for your message. I still haven't happy my colposcopy appointment, its at the end of the month. I seen a gynecologist in April and she took a biopsy of my cervix, I asked her if she was concerned she said "no"  fast forward to a few weeks ago I received a vague letter telling me I had CIN and that I will get treatment. I had to call and speak with a secretary and ask what grade it was and what treatment. CIN 3 and LLETZ. I still have symptoms and tbh I am feel extremely frustrated about the lack of care and support. I have had this issue for 2 years now and if they would have listened to me I very much doubt I would have CIN 3. How are you? Have you had an appointment?
