Feeling overwhelmed - found a lump in my breast and next week I'll be having an ultrasound, mammogram and biopsy

Hello everyone,

I'm 62 and lead a very active lifestyle. 3 weeks ago I had pain in my left breast after lying on my front in an exercise class. Then I discovered a lump.

I've had a physical exam at the breast clinic, results so far: 'palpable lump no other abnormality's noted.'

in a weeks time I have an ultrasound & mammogram then possibly a biopsy.

i don't feel like myself, feeling nervous and a huge loss of confidence. I'm a carer for a learning disabled relative and my husband is waiting for an operation.

I'm usually a positive person but feel quite bleak which is unlike me.

  • HI Bay-tree,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear how you are feeling, but can assure you that this is all perfectly normal. Sitting in "the unknown" waiting room is a scary place to be,  but it does get easier as you learn more about your condition. The ultrasound, mammogram and biopsy are all very straightforward, although you will have to wait another 1 or 2 weeks for results if you have a biopsy. I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
