Can an ulcer be a sign of breast cancer?

The title says it all I guess.

I had a scare a couple of years ago, went to a “one stop” breast clinic and after a scan, mammogram and biopsy everything came back ok thankfully.

This time round I seemed to develop a small spot on the side of my breast. Within a week it was infected and turned into an ulcer. I’ve been ok different antibiotics since 2nd January and now trying fusidic acid cream.

I have my appointment at the breast clinic again but due to the scandal in the north east there are delays so I’ve spent the last month overthinking and still have 2 weeks to go till my appointment.

I’m not sure why I’m posting here. Some support maybe? My husband has his head in the sand and won’t talk about it. But it’s all I’m thinking about.

The ulcer is now the size of a 20p piece. It is finally starting to dry out but has a very had lump/patch of tissue under my skin now. It doesn’t really hurt as I have gone on to loose some skin sensation however the inside of my breast has stabbing and burning sensations throughout the day. Also, my nipples feel damp - and very painful/sensitive - but there doesn’t seem to be any leakage.

Sorry for the post. I’m not even sure why I’m writing it.

  • Hi xxSparklesxx,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

This is always a worrying time waiting for answers and I expect that you've written this in the hope of getting some reassurance, which sadly I cannot give you. Every case is different, even if similar symptoms are experienced. I am glad to hear that your ulcer now seems to be healing - the hard patch under the surface might just be healing. We are really reliant on the results of scans and biopsy, which are usually carried out at the breast clinic. I am sorry to hear that you are not getting the support that you need from your husband. Do you have any family or friends who you can rely on to be there for you?

You have done the right thing by getting this investigated, although I am sorry to hear that you are a victim of the local scandal and have had to wait so long for a breast clinic appointment. I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found and that this is simply due to the infection.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
