Waiting times for CT scan, endoscopy and biopsy results. How can this be fast track?

I was referred for tests on 1st December, after GP identified a lump (bowel).  I had a consultation on 8th December and a further appointment made for 16th December.  The 16th December appointment was cancelled within 2 hours of arranged time and re-arranged for 23rd December.  This was another consultation where I was advised that CT and MRI scans, endoscopy and biopsy were ordered.  A CT scan was arranged for 6th January but I was advised that the MRI had been rejected.  The endoscopy and biopsy was carried out 16th January.

Having heard no more I called my consultant’s secretary on Friday 23rd January to find out when I would get results.  She advised me that results would not be available until MRI results were through.  I explained that I had been advised, 4 weeks ago, that MRI order had been rejected.  Secretary advised that she would put results through to my consultant urgently.  I called my consultant this morning, 8 weeks since referral, and was advised to contact his secretary for an appointment.

How can this be “fast-track”?  I am doing my best but finding this all too exasperating to cope with….as well as the lump!

  • Welcome to the forum Fed68 although I'm sorry about how long you've been waiting for results.

This must be very frustrating but I hope you've now managed to book an appointment to see your consultant and will be getting your results soon.

Coping with the wait is very tough, but I hope this guide I've included will help to steady your nerves whist you wait.

If it would help to talk to one of our cancer nurses about any of this, you can do so on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful, so if you have any questions they will do their best to answer them.

Our members know how tough it is to be in this position, so you are not alone, and hopefully you will receive some support and advice from them soon.

If you feel up to it, do let us know how you get on Fed68. We'll be thinking of you and have our fingers crossed for good news.

    Kind regards,
