Breast pain causes

I have already visited my GP and have my breast clinic referral appointment this week but I can't stop overthinking the outcome and googling my symptoms (bad idea, I know).

Sept 2025 I noticed hairs growing near to the nipple on my left breast, put it down to age changes (34) then late November I started having a constant pain in the same breast that goes from my armpit to my nipple and be a dull ache, shooting pain and feeling heavy. I checked my breast and wasn't sure if I was feeling an abnormality but the area where I felt it caused the pain to worsen when touched. I put it down to my cycle and waited for another cycle to see if it stopped. No changes and then Christmas happened. In the new year with the pain continuing I went to the GP and she checked but couldn't feel what I was feeling and said it's possible muscular pain but refered me for peace of mind plus both grandmothers have had breast cancer.

My question is has anyone else had symptoms similar to mine and what the conclusion was. I know I should wait until my appointment but I already struggle with anxiety and the wait and continuous pain is causing me to spiral

  • HI Lou9,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear about your anxiety. This is only natural. We usually advise people not to Google while waiting for an appointment. Much of the information is poorly researched, out of date and aimed at the more spectacular cases. It won't give you any answers and will only increase your anxiety. I am glad to hear that you have your breast clinic appointment this week and I hope that nothing untoward is found.

In answer to your question, everyone's circumstances are different and you would probably find that some of the people who had your symptoms would be fine and others would have cancer. It is impossible to tell which is which until certain tests are carried out. These will be carried out at the breast clinic and you will soon find out. Please keep in touch and let us knowhow you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
