Husband (43 M) has symptoms, bloods came back clear, doctor refusing to do anything else, what can we do?

Hello everyone :)

I'm in a bit of a state at the moment and looking for guidance.

A bit of back-story - my husband has a strong history of cancer in his immediate family - Nan had it twice in 2 different places, Mom has breast cancer twice, Dad died of a breain tumour in 2007 in his early 50's, sister died in hospital while being treated for Leaukemia in her early 20's (I say that because she caught MRSA, it wasn't the cancer that directly took her, all very horrible).

In August, we were due to go away camping with the kids for a week and my husband had notice that the lymph nodes in his groin were swollen. He took himself to the doctors to get it hcecked before we went and got some antibiotics to take away. He had been very tired and rundown and fluey too, so it made sense. Within a few days the nodes went down, and we thought that was that.

Over the next few months we all go the flu and colds repeatedly (3 kids, it's a hazard) and his nodes came back up (under arms and neck this time too). So, back he goes for more antibiotics. At this time, he also has a horrific migraine (hes siffered before but this was unusual) it floored him for 4 days even on codeine, he was sick and couldn't get out of bed. I have chronic migraine with aura, so I kind of know what's "normal" and said if it lasted longer that 24 more hours I was taking him to A&E, but it started to go off.

He works nights and has a lot of recurrent headaches, but he brushes them off a tiredness. However, 3 weeks before Christmas he had a couple of days off with the flu - and had some holiday to use up - so ended up with 3 weeks paid off work, which was nice, but he spent the entire time sleeping, barely getting up, and when he did he was so fatigued. The sore throat still lingers, and we are 5 weeks later. We all had the same bug, i think, and we all recovered within 10 days ish, even my elderly parents. So, for a man in his prime to still be so fatigued seems alarming to me. I know everyone recovers differently, but I phoned him at 1pm on Tuesday and I had to wake him up to answer the phone. This is not normal for him - he is an active man - he doesn't go to the gym, but he never stops. He used to complain to me is I was lazy!!

There's been other things - three times since this started, he has had a sudden bout of vertigo-like symptoms - dissiness, head pain which he describes as the feeling of being drunk, and he can't stand up. He is then very sick. It all goes back to normal an hour later and he's fine.

He has been to the doctor 5 times now, including this morning. I am at my wits end. For a while the doctor convinved him it was cysts not swollen lymph nodes, but even he realised this was nonsense as it was all his nodes at different times. Then they keep saying "underlying infection", which doesn't sit right with me.

He had blood tests done yesterday AM and the doctor says they came back normal, but both him and me are not convinved by this. The GP says he is consulting other doctors but at thi sstage there's nothign else that can be done.

He hasn't lost weight, or appetite, or had any other symptoms such as night sweats, but things like hearing and vision we aren't sure because he's profoundly deaf in one ear (late onset at 35 ish due to workplave environment), with tinnitus, so isn't sure what's normal or not...  and wears glasses, although he has bee ncomplaining of noticably blurred vision in one eye, dismissed by the optician.

I'm sorry for the long post, but I really don't know what to do next. You can't force doctors to take you seriously, and I'm worried I'm being a hypochonriad on his behalf. He is clearly concerned, he's not one to visit the GP, but he's listening to the doctor whereas I'm a little more cynical given his family history. He's almost his sisters identical twin in every day other than birth, so that's scary, and I know the NHS missed his Dad's cancer and brushed it off as Bell's Palsy - by the time they got him into hospital he was looking at a 24-hour prognosis if they didn't get him into surgery - they did and he lasted 4 months, so excuse me if I'm not trusting.

Thanks for any advice

Sarah
