Colposcopy Biopsy - No Results Yet

Hi. I went for a colposcopy on 10/12/25 after my routine Smears showing HPV / changes over the monitored time period.

at the colposcopy the Doctor said she saw what she thought were precancerous cells so did a biopsy to send to the lab for confirmation. She said she was marking the biopsy as "urgent" and that she was sure i'd need to return for treatment, she just needed the biopsy results to confirm what that would be.

to date, 5 weeks from the date of the biopsy, i've not had any results or any update.

i feel like i'm going crazy waiting for the postman everyday as i've been told results should be sent in a letter.

is anyone, or has anyone, been in the same position?

is 5 weeks too long to wait when biopsy was marked "urgent"?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, BeckyBlues.

I’m sorry to hear you are having to wait like this, especially after being told at your appointment that the biopsy was marked as urgent.

Delays with letters and results can happen for different reasons, and the waiting itself is often one of the hardest parts. Hopefully others who have been through a similar experience will be along shortly to share their perspective. In the meantime, you are very welcome to join conversations with members who have mentioned similar delays, as people here are friendly and often happy to talk about what helped them.

If you feel you need some reassurance or would like to talk things through while you are waiting, you are very welcome to contact our nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

I hope you hear something very soon, as this period of uncertainty can be truly exhausting.

    All the best,

    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
